All students are expected to come to school every day, be on time (in the classroom by 7:50 AM), and to remain at school until the end of the day (2:30 PM on regular days, 1:30 PM on Early Release days).

Please be sure to call the front office at (386) 575-4115 to inform the school about your child's absence. If you take your child to the doctor, please be sure to turn in a doctor's note to the front office so that the absence can be marked excused. If your child frequently misses school due to illness (including frequent early checkouts or clinic visits), it is strongly encouraged that they be taken to the doctor so the problem can be addressed and missed instruction time be minimized.
Can I come on campus with my student (to walk them to class, etc.)?
Parents who drop students off at school must do so at the parent pick-up loop or outside the gates. Any adults coming on campus inside the gates (for example, to attend a conference, volunteer, etc.) must provide ID and sign in at the front office to receive a visitor's badge. This includes adults attending special events on campus (including awards ceremonies, talent shows, etc.) so please remember to bring your ID! Please be aware that any adult found inside the campus gates without a visitor's badge will be escorted to the front office.
For dismissal, parents must use the parent pick-up loop or wait in the designated parent walk-up area (grassy area by the parent pick-up loop) to retrieve their child.
Where can I find out about school events?
Each month students receive a calendar sheet to take home. This sheet includes school events and the lunch menu for the month. Deltona Lakes Elementary also publishes monthly newsletters which you can access here. You can also view the school news on YouTube.
Teachers also use various means to communicate events to parents (ClassDojo, Remind, class newsletters, etc.). Okay, but my child is sick... How bad does it have to be for him / her to have to stay home from school?
Your child should stay home if s/he:
- Has a fever of 101.0 degrees or higher
- Has been vomiting or has diarrhea
- Has symptoms that keep him/her from participating in school, such as:
- Very tired or lack of appetite
- Cough that s/he cannot control, sneezing often (can spread to others)
- Headache, body aches, earache
- Sore throat (a little sore is OK, but a bad sore throat could be strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep throat in children are a headache and upset stomach, or rash. Call your doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to know if it is strep throat.)
The 24 hour rule is:
- Fever - Keep your child home until the fever has been gone without medicine for 24 hours. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.
- Vomiting or Diarrhea - Keep your child home 24 hours after the last time s/he vomited or had diarrhea.
- Antibiotics - Keep your child home until 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotics for anything like an ear infection or strep throat.
Please be sure to call the front office at (386) 575-4115 to inform the school about your child's absence. If you take your child to the doctor, please be sure to turn in a doctor's note to the front office so that the absence can be marked excused.
